A Day Shearing
Alpaca fleece is a major factor in Alpaca farming. It is one of the main sources of income and therefore it is worth taking extra time and care when shearing. It is advisable to shear the blanket area first and bag it before completing the animal to stop contamination of lower grade fibre, and remember to brush up between animals too. All our animal fleeces are bagged individually and identified with the animal’s details.
There are several options available with the fleece once it is cut:
- Selling to hand spinners etc;
- Selling to fibre companies for a set price per kg according to quality;
- Processing of fibre—by using Alpaca mills to convert fleece into yarn and or merchandise to sell independently
